Herbert von Karajan is accepted as one of the greatest conductors of all time. He was described as ‘the music director of Europe’ and ‘Das Wunder Karajan’ in his time. Karajan was born in Salzburg in 1908. You can see his statue outside his home in Salzburg, Austria.
From Henley & Lihoreau’s “Classic Ephemera” (2009): Karajan had a reputation of running his rehearsals in a dictatorial style. And here’s the joke:
Q: What’s the difference between God and von Karajan?
A: God doesn’t think He’s a conductor.
